Overview

Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has a full-time opportunity for a Medical Records Specialist in Anaheim, CA.

 

Responsible for medical records processing and assisting with administrative duties in support of the PPOSBC Patient Services Department.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High school or GED diploma. AA degree preferred
  • Basic medical terminology required
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-10 preferred
  • RHIT or another related credential, preferred

Minimum Work Experience:

  • 4 – 6 years of experience in health care setting or related field, required

Other Requirements:

  • Basic navigational knowledge of electronic medical record applications such as; Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, e-Clinical Works, and Nextgen are a plus.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills required.
  • Excels in communication (written & verbal)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality required for this role.
  • Must be able to work independently and follow through on all details of projects and tasks.
  • Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Must demonstrate high-level computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with electronic medical records may also be required.
  • This position requires travel to other sites and locations; if using a personal vehicle to meet this requirement, a valid CA driver’s license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.
  • Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPOSBC locations and by all PPOSBC employees, and supporting these critical services is an essential job duty and fundamental responsibility of all employees.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: Essential functions encompass the required tasks, duties, and responsibilities performed as part of the job and the reason the job exists.

  • Works closely with informatics and IT to support Patient Services.
  • Responsible for retrieving medical records (both paper and electronic forms) from various healthcare facilities for continuity of care.
  • Establishes & maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with all agencies, members, medical center personnel, department personnel & the public.
  • Provides best practice E.H.R. documentation guidelines per AHIMA to promote the integrity of the health record
  • Assists with document management and maintenance
