Overview

Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has a part-time opportunity for a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in San Bernardino, CA.

 

Schedule: 3/10 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) / 30 hrs per week.

 

To administer analgesia/anesthesia for purpose of pain relief by oral or injectable routes or render patient’s unconscious for surgical procedures by intravenous injected into the vein. CRNA closely monitors the patient’s response by monitoring temperature, pulse, heart rate, respiratory rate, and symptoms of distress until the patient has recovered from the anesthesia and is stable for discharge.

Licensure and/or Certification Requirements:

  • Current California Nurse Anesthetist license and in good standing.
  • Current California Registered Nurse license and in good standing.
  • CPR certification required. 

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. 

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of work experience as a CRNA.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Must demonstrate high level computer skills including; Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Electronic medical records experience may also be required.
  • This position requires travel to other sites and locations; if using a personal vehicle to meet this requirement, a valid CA driver’s license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.
  • Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPOSBC locations and by all PPOSBC employees, and supporting these critical services is an essential job duty and fundamental responsibility of all employees.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: Essential functions encompass the required tasks, duties and responsibilities performed as part of the job and the reason the job exists.

  • Adhere to the agency’s policies, procedures, and protocols. This may include successfully completing agency, regional, and/or state certification requirements.
  • Assess the patient’s medical history and how it might affect the patient’s response to anesthesia.
  • Assess the patient’s pain management needs prior to surgical procedure.
  • Decide which drugs and techniques best fit the patient’s needs.
  • Educate the patient about the process to be used.
  • Placement and management of IV catheter.
  • Connect patients to the EKG monitor prior to procedure.
  • Give oral, injectable analgesia or conscious sedation.
  • Monitor the patient’s response during and after anesthesia.
  • Initiate emergency measures as needed if the patient experiences complications to anesthesia.
  • Keep detailed records of the medications given and the patient’s response.
  • Assist in the resuscitation of patients, as necessary.
  • Assist patients to recovery room after procedure and monitor their status until discharge.
  • Expand knowledge about new drugs and anesthesia techniques as they become available. 

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Help relieve other licensed staff for their breaks and lunch.
  • Order medications and oxygen tank and re-stock medications as needed.
  • Attend medical meetings as required.
  • May assist with cleaning and maintenance of technical equipment.
  • Possess good communication skills.
  • Ability to instill confidence in patients.
  • May be deployed to other sites in case of low volume or provider need including San Bernardino County locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
