    The Director of Communications is responsible for the development and execution of Public Relations and Internal and External Communication plans for the agency.

    Public Relations

    • Develop strategy and execute communications to drive positive coverage for Planned Parenthood Orange/San Bernardino and associated brands/services across multiple platforms.
    • Develop press relationships for media opportunities and create assets including press releases, collateral, events, and other supporting materials.
    • Serve as point person for Executive Team interviews including interview prep, draft talking points, and media training.
    • Serve as affiliate representative to the press and as relevant for crisis communication and issue management.

     Internal Communications

    • Manage agency Intranet which includes creating and managing a centralized calendar for all major internal announcements and initiatives as well as all department pages.
    • Develop and execute a consistent Message Training program for all staff.
    • Oversees employee reward program to increase employee satisfaction.
    • Develop, implement, and present findings of Employee Satisfaction Survey.
    • Develop and implement a plan to foster inter-department communication.
    • Collaborate across multiple departmental teams to develop strategies to effectively communicate change management, policy rollouts, and general information that is important to employees.

    External Communications

    • Support the strategic communication goals of brand perception, reputation initiatives, and patient marketing.
    • Lead executive profile strategy including speaking opportunities, conferences, awards, etc., for Executive Leadership.
    • Ensure brand consistency internally and externally with correct logos, brand colors, and tone.


    Minimum Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or other related field or comparable work experience required.

     Minimum Work Experience:

    • 10+ years working in Public Relations and/ or Communications required.
    • Advanced copywriting and journalism skills required.

     Supervisory Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of direct report management experience.
    • Demonstrated ability as an effective leader including coaching and team-building skills.
    • Strategic analysis, planning and budgeting experience. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently.

    Language Requirements/Preference:

    • Bilingual English / Spanish Preferred: Intermediate to advanced skillset in both speaking and writing.

     Other Requirements:

    • Exemplary public relations skills. Highly skilled at writing, pitching, and an ability to cultivate media relationships.
    • Communicates Effectively. A highly influential communicator who understands audiences, including how, what and when to best communicate.
    • Collaborates, builds strong, trusting relationships across the organization. Partners effectively with other internal and external teams.
    • Plans and executes strategic initiatives. Prioritizes and develops clear plans but operates with a tolerance for ambiguity and an understanding that plans change, priorities change, and flexibility is key. Keen attention to detail and ability to see the big picture.
    • Demonstrates good judgement. Effective at time management. Can act as a sounding board for leaders and business partners.
