    Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has an exciting full-time opportunity for a Health Educator I who is responsible for implementing community education program components to target populations.

     

    Presentation topics may include sexual reproductive health, contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STI’s), HIV, male responsibility, communicating about sexuality within the family, and accessing Planned Parenthood services.

    Responsibilities

    1. Perform outreach and presentations for the target population and greater community as needed
    2. Perform health education duties for target populations served through the assigned program(s) including schools, community-based agencies, juvenile correctional institutions, youth serving personnel, and other settings in the areas of sexually transmitted infections and birth control methods
    3. Implement and deliver age-appropriate interactive activities with relevance for the varied groups
    4. Support Peer Education program in both high school and college levels by assisting with trainings and hosting meetings to achieve program objectives
    5. Review presentation and outreach materials and provide feedback to management about their age-appropriateness, cultural sensitivity, and effectiveness with target population based on client responses
    6. Establish rapport with clients in the classroom and/or community, remaining cognizant of and responsive to requests by management
    7. Maintain a program schedule of your own classes
    8. Document your presentations and assist in the collection of statistical information for grant operations and submission
    9. Assist management with ongoing updates and coordination of articles for betterthansexed.org
    10. Participate in all required evaluation pre and post-test activities
    11. Enhance educational articles and social media activities to align with seasonality and immediate topics
    12. Assist Department with creation of videos, webinars, and other multi-media projects as needed
    13. Keep current on relevant anatomy and physiology, methods of contraception, STIs, pregnancy, adoption, early prenatal care, education techniques, community resources, Organization protocols, referral procedures, and all Planned Parenthood programs
    14. Identify inappropriate or illegal situations and make quick decisions about how to handle situation properly

    Qualifications

    Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, or any other science related field such as biological science, pre-medical, education, sociology, or social work

    At least two years related experience and/or training in sexual/reproductive health, or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Ability to gain California Family Health Council’s Basic Family Health Worker certification within 3 months of employment

    Skills to communicate with the populations served by Planned Parenthood and effectively present information to various groups across levels of the community

    Ability to read, write, and present educational material in English and in Spanish is preferred

    Availability to work flexible hours when required, including weekends and evenings
