    We are currently searching for an Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator to implement community building in our communities and organizing efforts in order to support PPOSBC’s leadership in healthcare, advocacy, health education. In addition, this position will be asked to develop and coordinate community outreach efforts in order to build a strong base of community awareness and support. To manage the volunteer program and promote volunteerism through effective recruitment.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    Community Building and Organizing

    • Work with cross-departments to determine appropriate communication methods for targeted communities.
    • Identify, schedule and staff community outreach efforts in targeted communities, including, identifying and scheduling outreach opportunities but not limited to health and community fairs.
    • Create an annual calendar of all critical community events at which PPOSBC should be represented.
    • Develop a database of community contacts including community leaders, influencers and activists who work with targeted communities. . Establish collaborative relationships with community members and supporters of our mission.
    • Attend community meetings, business groups etc at which PPOSBC should be represented.  Work with VP of Community Education and Outreach to provide a link between the community and the organization.
    • Serve as a community liaison to assist in patient recruitment activities and promote health education/WIC outreach.
    • Establish an outreach committee to inform cross departments of community efforts.
    • Coordinate all outreach and tabling activities in the community and on campuses.

    Volunteer Program Responsibilities

    • Recruit volunteers for agency assistance through mailings, advertising, public presentations and other appropriate means.
    • Interview and individually screen all potential volunteers to determine suitability and preferences.
    • Present regular group orientations for new and prospective volunteers to acquaint them with agency history, services and volunteer program.
    • Place volunteers in areas of service according to volunteers’ needs, skills and preference clinic or department requests
    • Schedule and coordinate volunteer training with trainers and managers, as appropriate for  specific placements.
    • Plan annual volunteer recognition event and promote ongoing recognition activities with staff and through media.
    • Maintain volunteer files and records for recognition purposes and agency requirements.
    • Maintain and update volunteer management resources, i.e., volunteer handbook, volunteer policies and procedures.
    • Maintain and enhance community awareness of agency’s volunteer program through networking with other community agencies and by representing the agency at community functions, workshops, and committees

     

    Qualifications

    Qualified candidates will have:

    • B.A. degree preferred or equivalent public health, human services, customer service/sales and/or community outreach experience.
    • a minimum of 2-5 years community organizational or outreach experience
    • a minimum of 2 years experience working with volunteers
    • Proven track record working with event planning. 
    • Sensitivity and experience with the needs of diverse ethnic and cultural populations
    • A strong understanding of Latino communities and the ability to function within those respective communities at a grassroots level a must.
    • Excellent administrative and oraganizational skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point)
    • Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese strongly preferred.
