Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has a full-time temporary opportunity for a Registered Nurse to provide family planning, prenatal, and/or abortion services to patients in accordance with Board of Registered Nursing and Planned Parenthood regulations and protocols in our Mission Viejo Health Center.  Provide quality patient care by providing contraceptive, prenatal, and abortion education and assessment.  Facilitate referrals to internal and external referral sources.


  • Dispense medications and contraceptive devices as per standing orders
  • Responsible for all aspects of inventory management including ensuring accurate accounting for medications, adequate supplies of drugs and devices, and accurate and timely completion of licensed staff sign-offs
  • Manage and monitor Beta Board
  • Answer health related patient phone calls during business hours
  • Provide quality assurance review assuring adherence to care plan and completeness of records
  • Provide laboratory tests as needed, including phlebotomy, Hgb, RH testing, review lab reports, and initiate follow-up.  Monitor lab reconciliation process
  • Daily performance of controls and completion of control logs for moderate complexity tests
  • Cross-train with Case Management
  • Provide minimal visits per RN standardized procedures
  • Contraceptive counseling
  • Provide information and education regarding reproductive health care; family planning, pre-term labor, labor and delivery, breast feeding, postpartum care, abortion procedure (surgical and medical) and discharge instructions
  • Provide backup as appropriate during medical emergencies, adhere to all OSHA requirements
  • Perform monthly chart audits and complete monthly Licensed Staff Checklist
  • Review medical history and assessment, patient observation, take and record vitals, pain management assessment
  • Orient and train new RNs if needed, and assist with Medical Assistant training skills sign-off
  • Insertion and removal of IV line
  • Perform recovery room responsibilities
  • Provide conscious sedation if trained
  • Provide counseling and assessment for specialty services (i.e. Essure, vasectomy, etc…)
  • May be deployed to other sites in case of low volume or provider need including Orange County locations


  • AS/BS in Nursing and a Current California Registered Nurse License
  • CPR and ACLS (surgical site only) certification required
  • Maternal Child Health (MCH) education, including family planning preferred
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Travel to other health centers when required
